GR 65 Way of St James

The GR 65 runs through Tierra Estella-Lizarraldea, following the French Way through historic villages, sites of pilgrimage heritage and rural landscapes.

The GR 65 Way of St James route through Tierra Estella-Lizarraldea follows the course of the French Way, crossing the region from east to west between Puente la Reina/Gares and Logroño, in La Rioja. This route forms the final stretch of the Way in Navarre before it enters La Rioja and links some of the towns with the strongest tradition of pilgrimage in the region. From the vicinity of Mañeru, the route passes through villages such as Cirauqui/Zirauki, Lorca, Villatuerta and Estella-Lizarra, before continuing towards Ayegui, Ázqueta, Villamayor de Monjardín, Los Arcos, Sansol, Torres del Río and Viana, before leaving the Autonomous Community of Navarre and heading towards La Rioja. Along the route, pilgrims pass through rural landscapes, ancient historic paths and a rich collection of religious and architectural heritage that has accompanied those travelling to Santiago de Compostela for centuries.
