The Basque-Navarrese Greenway
A cycle route along the old Basque-Navarre railway line, taking in the landscapes of Lokiz, tunnels and the Arquijas viaduct.
The Basque-Navarre Railway Greenway is an iconic route that follows the track of the old Basque-Navarre railway, known as the "trenico", which linked Estella-Lizarra (Navarre) with Bergara (Gipuzkoa), passing through Vitoria. This railway operated from 1927 to 1967 and was a key part of regional transport, carrying both passengers and goods.
This route begins in Estella-Lizarra and ends in Zúñiga, where you can continue towards Álava. The route is very well signposted and maintained, and is specially designed for cycling. We set off from Estella towards Zubielqui; from there we continue to Zufía, where we can enjoy magnificent views of the Sierra de Loquiz and its limestone cliffs. We continue our journey through the villages of Murieta, Mendilibarri, Ancín and Acedo. We then come to the Arquijas tunnel and viaduct, which are 1,415 m and 157 m long, respectively. Finally, we reach the end of the route in Zúñiga.
