The Carlism Cycle Route
A circular cycle route between Estella, Lácar and Abárzuza, taking in key sites from the Carlist Wars.
We start the circular route next to the Museum of Carlism in Estella. We set off towards Villatuerta along the cycle path that links the two towns and, upon reaching Villatuerta, we take the track that leads us south-east. Before reaching the 10 km mark, we turn north towards the first key point on the route: the Mauriain cross. From here, we head for the next point, the Princess of Asturias’s stronghold, near the summit of Eskinza. Once there, we follow part of the Cañada Real de Tauste-Andía to begin the descent towards Lorca and then head towards Lácar. One of the most important battles of the Third Carlist War took place in these two towns.
From Lácar, we head towards Abárzuza and pass by the church of Nuestra Señora de Eguiarte, an ideal spot for a stop. Later, after passing through several stretches of road and farmland, we arrive in Abárzuza. In this village, we can also see traces of the Carlist Wars. From here, we head towards the village of Zurucuáin, following roads and farmland, and take the final climb and descent through the orchards of San Lorenzo until we return to the starting point.
