The Longar Hypogeum and the chapels of Viana and Aras
A circular cycle route between Viana and Aras, taking in chapels, the Longar hypogeum and the landscapes of the Sierra de Codés.
We start the circular route at the car park of the Viana sports complex and head north, passing the El Calvario chapel along a well-maintained gravel track. We pass the ruins of the San Juan del Ramo chapel and then reach the village of Aras.
We cross through the village and head from the upper part of the village, next to a reservoir, north-west along the signposted track, first descending through the Alto de la Sierra area, until we reach the junction to visit the Longar hypogeum. We take the steep climb up to the hypogeum and, once we have visited it, we retrace our steps along the same path, taking care on the descent. Back at the junction, we head south towards Viana, following the River Longar, which later becomes known as the Valdeibañez. Before reaching Viana, we come across the chapel of San Martín de Tidón. Afterwards, we cross the village to return to the starting point.
